Sometimes super pale Clients want super dark results and it can be frustrating being unable to give them what they want. The darker the tan, the more fake it looks. I often have stand offs with Clients regarding the depth of their tans. Usually everyone is on board but some of my Clients will tell you this. A spray tan should look like you’ve literally just stepped off a plane.
Spray tan solutions don’t use one’s skin pigmentation to tan. The colour is a surface colourant applied to the upper skin surface therefore you can only get so dark based on your skin profile.
Everyone’s skin is unique. What works for your super tanned best friend, won’t work for you. The paler your skin, the higher the DHA% used, the pale person’s skin can’t cope and the result will be, ‘It looks S-H-I-T!’ That’s why its so important to engage with a technician that’s absolutely 100% knowledgable on the science behind tanning.
You don’t often see celebrities with uber dark tans. The ones you may see also use full body makeup or the guide colour from their tan solution hasn’t been washed off. Plus if you’re looking at the them in magazines or online……..em…..editing and……em……filtering!!
Celebs can take 2 – 5 hours in preparation of an event or shoot and that’s using several pros working on different body parts. Take Strictly for example, they spray tan all over and then enhance with body makeup and bronzers to deepen colour and not to mention their imperfections!
We all know celebrities have acne, cellulite and fatty bits but they’re all edited out. Just remember that their ‘dark’ tans are too!
Anyway, lets just be glad that dark tans are so yesterday and everyone is going for the just ‘stepped off the plane’ look.
